Matt Schroer, Baseball: Most Strikeouts
Arcadia High School
Matt broke the school record with 92 strikeouts this season. The record was previously held by Matt’s pitching coach Jack Krawczyk set in 1992. Matt will be continuing his pitching career at LSU.

Kiana Kai is only a freshman, but she already has broken 5 individual school records and 2 relay records. Kiana has made all these sprints look so easy and she’s proven that anything is possible. This year Kiana qualified at an automatic mark for 5 events and provisional marks for 3 other ones. She made her way into state for her favorite events, 100m hurdles, 300m hurdles, 4x100m relay, and 4x400m relay. Kiana placed 2nd in 300m hurdles, Kiana was named “Most Valuable Player” for the girls team this season in track and field.

This team raced for gold at the Great Hearts Middle School League Championships in May 2017! They crushed the old record time of 51.57 seconds, set in 2016. Their team and school is only in it’s 2nd year, so this is a school record as well.
Maja Ahmann, Track & Field Javelin: 142’3
Chaparral High School
Maja Ahmann placed first in the girls D1 & D2 Javelin throw this year, the first champion since 1930. She’s very happy that the state of Arizona is bringing the Javelin event back to the track & field lineup.
AIA Division 2 State Championships
Meghan Barney, Track: 3200m, 1600m 800m
Meghan broke the school record for the 1600m with the time of 5:04 and won three state titles in her division! She is now ranked #7th in the State and is at the top of the leaderboard for small schools girls 1600.
Meghan Barney flew under the meet record for the Girls 1600 meters at the Sun Angel Classic by over a second in a time of 5:04.91!
